Watching The Fire:
Flying Turtle Blog 11/12/2021
Last night someone I care deeply about had a dream that the world was on fire, and that “…we were waiting to burn up”. Then they woke up.
It seems a rather frightening concept on its face: the world being on fire, and simply awaiting the moment when the thing that is burning is you! The dreamer seems headed for a fate that is inescapable, and taking action is meaningless.
Or is there more here? When the dreamer wakes, they are not yet burning, but are awaiting their doom. The dreamer is in a place of shelter possibly even a sanctuary, even if only temporary. And they are not alone! Others are at hand. From this place, action is possible, and hope remains, unless we cast it away. We are only doomed at the point that we decide we are doomed! Life, and its quality, are determined primarily by perspective, and what we choose to value.
Even if only moments remain in your life, how you choose to spend those precious moments can reveal much about the deepest desires of your heart, what is truly most important to you, and maybe even demonstrate to you how many layers of deception would need to be cast off in order to reveal the deepest, most truthful you.
And… why are these moments more precious that the moments just before?
It also brings to mind a vision I witnessed a couple of years ago, within a ceremonial fire, at the close of a retreat. In the fire, I watched as a wold gave chase to a group. The group entered an “Ark” (a boat… a sanctuary…) and fled.
The Ark escaped the fire, the wolf did not. Those who made the choice to enter the Ark, to be one of the group, survived and escaped doom… not by defeating the wolf, nor by putting out the fire, but by coming together, maintaining a peaceful sanctuary and integrity as a group, and by following their wisdom to make the choices which allowed them to survive.
We are only doomed if we decide that we are.
Now that you are awake…..
what will you do?
